Job description

Job Opportunity: Band 6 UGI Dietetic Post

We are pleased to advertise a permanent Band 6 UGI Dietetic position within the Greater Manchester Oesophago-gastric Multi-Disciplinary Team, based at GM OG Surgical Centre, Salford Care Organisation.

The role is part of our Gastro Dietetic Team, which includes an ACP post, 4 Band 7 Dietitians, 7 Band 6 Dietitians, a Band 5 Dietitian, and 3 Dietetic assistants. While primarily focused on UGI services, our team supports patients across medical gastroenterology, colorectal, and general surgery. You will be part of the wider Salford dietetic team comprising nearly 70 members across acute and community settings, including assistants and admin staff.

Your responsibilities include working with the Greater Manchester Oesophago-gastric Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide holistic care and treatment planning for patients diagnosed with UGI cancer and benign UGI conditions. The role may involve working at off-site clinics across Greater Manchester, collaborating with local UGI MDTs to support early diagnosis. Clinical duties include managing an inpatient caseload on surgical wards and Critical Care units, alongside MDT and Dietetic clinics. Opportunities to develop skills in managing enteral and parenteral nutrition are available.

This is a permanent, static position requiring a team member who is adaptable, motivated, compassionate, and dynamic. Experience in treating patients in acute and outpatient settings is essential. Good communication skills and flexibility are vital, especially for supporting patients during early cancer diagnosis. The role involves oral nutritional support, managing enteral and parenteral nutrition, and making acute nutritional support decisions requiring hospital admission.

The department encourages research, service development, audit, and quality improvement activities, including data collection and reporting.

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) provides hospital and social care services to over one million people across Greater Manchester, with a workforce of 20,000 dedicated to improving lives. We are committed to high standards of care and collaboration with local authorities and partners. Our core values are care, appreciation, and inspiration, which we seek in all team members.

We offer roles with purpose and flexibility, with opportunities for career progression. Benefits include a competitive package, generous annual leave, flexible working options, and protected time for health and wellbeing activities.

For more details about the role and responsibilities, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification under the supporting documents. Additional information about working at the Northern Care Alliance can be found in the attached Candidate Information Pack or on our website.
