NHS Scotland is seeking a Specialist/Trainee Biomedical Scientist to join a dynamic team in a high-throughput department. We are looking for 1.5 WTE individuals who are good team players to work in this busy, progressive department. Applications are invited from HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientists. Applicants will also be considered for a trainee post; with a BSc Hons in Biomedical Science and HCPC registration, preferably attained within a medical microbiology setting.
The department handles approximately 230,000 specimens annually and employs 47 staff members. It holds full ISO 15189, UKAS accreditation and is approved for training by NES, HCPC, and IBMS. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further personal development are supported.
A specialist portfolio in medical microbiology is advantageous, as is demonstrable microbiology laboratory experience.
Trainee Specialist Biomedical Scientist applicants must provide evidence of HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist. Those who have not yet completed the specialist portfolio will follow an in-service training program, performing technical diagnostic work to complete the Specialist Microbiology portfolio within 2 years. During this period, you will be paid on Band 5, and upon completion of the portfolio, you will move to Band 6. Out-of-hours working, including on-call duties, will be required once training and competence are achieved.
