Job summary

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is hiring a Specialist Teaching Assistant for Outwood Alternative Provision Eston. The role supports literacy and numeracy development, manages a student caseload, and delivers targeted interventions in collaboration with teaching staff.

The successful candidate will lead EHCP reviews, monitor life skill targets, and help prepare learners for adulthood while contributing to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Essential HLTA standards or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of needs of students with learning difficulties and SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to write reports, risk assessments and Individual Health Care Plans; data-driven progress tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a student caseload inside and outside the classroom.
  • Track EHCP life skill targets and attainment; discuss progress with parents; set new targets.
  • Deliver intensive intervention programmes to individuals and groups with teachers.
  • Lead Person Centred Reviews/EHCP Reviews and complete welfare documents like risk assessments and health care plans.
  • Coordinate Exam Access Arrangements and testing; support inclusion rooms.

Role: Specialist Teaching Assistant

Academy: Outwood Alternative Provision Eston

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary (Actual Salary): £24,548 to £26,488 (Grade 9 SCP 22-25)

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week, Term Time Only plus 5 PD Days

About the role

We are looking for an outstanding individual who is enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational to join our team as a Specialist Teaching Assistant.

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant at Outwood Alternative Provision Eston you will be required to work closely with Teachers and Hub Coordinators and will have the energy and creativity to develop and inspire students learning, life skills and personalised outcomes.

A key focus will be to support student provision and increase students' ability to access all areas of the curriculum and school life. As part of the role you will possess the skills to embed and develop literacy (especially reading) and numeracy skills, working proactively with other members of the team to improve attainment, by adopting a personalised approach towards planning and delivery of a bespoke curriculum. The successful candidate will work to support students in all necessary provisions. Experience of Read, Write, Inc. would be advantageous.

A key focus will be to increase students' ability to access all areas of the curriculum. Examples of the work the successful candidate will be expected to deliver are to:

  • Take responsibility for a caseload of students inside and outside of the classroom during structured or unstructured time.
  • Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support students' educational progress and attainment and prepare them for adulthood.
  • Deliver intervention programs to individuals and small groups, preparing relevant and appropriate learning experiences in conjunction with teaching staff.
  • Track and monitor student life skill targets and/or EHCP outcomes, discussing progress with parents and agreeing new targets/EHCP outcomes at Interim Reviews
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons to small classes as required

Responsibilities

You will manage a student caseload, providing crucial specialist advice on adaptations and resources needed to support their educational attainment. A key aspect is the responsibility for meticulously tracking and monitoring EHCP life skill targets and academic outcomes. You will lead Person Centred Reviews/EHCP Reviews, deliver intensive intervention programmes to groups, and complete essential welfare documents like risk assessments and individual health care plans.

Furthermore, you will play a central role in leading the administration and provision of Exam Access Arrangements and testing, ensuring compliance, and supporting inclusion rooms like the Bridge and PLC.

Qualifications

It is essential that candidates meet the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) standards or possess equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience. Candidates must be knowledgeable of the needs of students with learning difficulties and disabilities and the SEND Code of Practice.

Required skills include the ability to write comprehensive reports, risk assessments, and Individual Health Care Plans, coupled with proven experience using data to measure and monitor progress and attainment. Efficient and effective organisational skills are mandatory.
