Specialist Teacher - SEMH

Start Date: 5th January 2026

Location: Northumberland

Contract: Full-time, term‑time plus 3 days during school holidays

Salary: £120‑£170 (depending on qualification and experience)

Qualifications: QTS/QTLS required

About the Role

Our agency is recruiting on behalf of a trauma‑informed school with attached alternative provision, offering bespoke academic and therapeutic support for students with SEN, SEMH needs or disrupted education. We welcome teachers across a range of subjects (English, Maths, arts, humanities, PE, technology, PSHE/RSE). Separate adverts run for English and Maths specialists.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver a broad, personalised curriculum that supports academic, social, and emotional progress.
  • Differentiated learning and adapt teaching approaches for a wide range of abilities.
  • Create a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment with high expectations for behaviour and engagement.
  • Work closely with colleagues to implement bespoke learning pathways aligned with the school curriculum.
  • Supervise and collaborate with teaching assistants as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with children with SEN or challenging behaviours.
  • Confidence in behaviour management and trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Prioritise safeguarding and respond effectively to incidents.

Working Hours

Monday – Friday, term‑time plus 3 days during school holidays. 40 hours per week, core hours 8:00 am – 6:00 pm; staff must be in‑centre 9:00 am – 3:00 pm with additional duties completed during core hours.
