Job summary

Impact Student Partners is seeking a Specialist Study Skills Tutor to provide on-campus, face-to-face support at universities in Leeds and remote assistance where appropriate. The role focuses on developing personalised learning strategies for students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) to boost independence and academic success.

Applicants must hold professional membership in recognized bodies and demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Impact Student Partners is a specialist Non-Medical Help (NMH) provider supporting students in Higher Education through Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). We work in partnership with universities and colleges across the UK to provide high-quality support for students with mental health conditions, neurodivergence, specific learning differences, long term health conditions, and other disabilities.

About the Role

Specialist Study Skills Tutors support students in Higher Education who have Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD’s) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and related learning differences. We are looking for Tutors who can provide on Campus, face to face support at Universities within Leeds and remotely.

The purpose of this role is to provide highly specialised, one-to-one academic support that helps students develop the study strategies, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in Higher Education. Through a student-centred and strengths-based approach, you will help students identify barriers to learning, build on their existing strengths, and develop practical techniques that promote independence and academic success.

Every student is different, and no two support plans are the same. A key part of the role involves developing a strong professional relationship with students, understanding their individual learning profiles, study habits, strengths, challenges, and academic goals, and adapting your support accordingly.

As a Specialist Study Skills Tutor, you will empower students to become more confident, independent learners by helping them develop personalised learning strategies that can be applied throughout their academic journey and beyond.

This is not a teaching or proofreading role. Instead, you will focus on equipping students with the tools, strategies, and techniques required to manage their studies effectively and develop as autonomous learners.

Pay and Benefits

• £39.00 per hour (including £4.22 per hour holiday pay, rolled-up rate), workplace pension scheme, CPD, peer networking and mentoring opportunities, and dedicated consultant and ongoing support

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver Specialist Study Skills sessions in accordance with DSA guidance and Impact Student Partners' quality standards.
• Develop tailored support strategies based on each student's Needs Assessment Report, individual learning profile, challenges, strengths, and agreed outcomes.
• Build positive and effective professional relationships that encourage confidence, engagement, and independence.
• Support students with:
• Developing effective study skills and learning strategies.
• Time management, organisation, planning, and prioritising workloads.
• Managing deadlines and academic responsibilities.
• Creating realistic action plans and study schedules.
• Developing research skills and locating appropriate academic resources.
• Understanding, evaluating, and referencing academic sources.
• Improving reading comprehension and note-taking techniques.
• Developing academic writing skills and structuring assignments.
• Building critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Developing memory and information processing strategies.
• Using assistive technology and learning tools effectively where appropriate.
• Building confidence, self-awareness, and independent learning skills.
• Maintain accurate and timely records, including session reports and support documentation.
• Identify and appropriately elevate safeguarding or wellbeing concerns in line with company procedures.
• Represent Impact Student Partners in a professional manner and comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Participate in supervision, training, peer networking sessions, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Applicants must hold professional membership with at least one of the following organisations at the level specified:

• The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS) – Full or Associate Membership.
• British Dyslexia Association (BDA) – Full Professional Membership.
• The Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE) – Professional Membership.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience supporting students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) in Higher Education.
• Knowledge of dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and related learning differences.
• Experience delivering Specialist Study Skills support funded through Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
• Strong understanding of academic study skills and learning strategies.
• Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgemental, and student-centred support.
• Experience delivering support online using virtual platforms.
• Understanding of assistive technology and learning support tools.
