Job Opportunity: Speech and Language Therapist - Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of a newly developed Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce. The team includes mental health professionals, educationalists, speech and language therapists, family workers, and other specialists dedicated to providing intensive support to prevent vulnerable pupils from disengaging from education and being vulnerable to child criminal exploitation.

This pilot taskforce aims to support a targeted group of young people and influence future provision strategies by the Local Authority. The role will be supported by Speech and Language Therapists within the core team and colleagues within the Specialist Taskforce.

Key Responsibilities:

1. To liaise with and advise on the management and implementation of Speech and Language Therapy programmes, monitoring and evaluating progress and revising programmes as needed.
2. To train relevant professionals, either uni-professional or interdisciplinary/agency teams.
3. To support the development of universal and targeted strategies within the context of Alternative Provision and wider educational settings.
4. To deliver evidence-based programmes of care, following established care pathways and published packages.
5. To provide leadership and support to junior team members, including supervision and first-line management responses.
6. To apply clinical expertise based on evidence-based practice.
7. To manage a caseload of clients with a range of SLCN in the SEMH context independently.
8. To maintain accurate records and work autonomously within Trust policies and professional standards.
9. To adhere to RCSLT guidelines and national policies in clinical practice.

Role Specifics:

To act as a specialist clinician supporting the Calderdale Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce, engaging with young people, assessing their communication abilities, and providing training to the wider workforce. You will audit and foster a communication-friendly environment within the alternative provision and support parents and carers regarding speech, language, and communication needs.

Responsibilities include managing your own caseload, conducting specialist assessments and treatments, developing individualised care plans, and facilitating transitions back into educational settings. You will also provide training and advice to staff across social care, education, and health sectors, supporting the wider multidisciplinary team.
