Exciting Opportunity: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Maternity Cover)

  • Duration:12 months
  • Working Pattern:30 hours over 41 weeks per year (Term Time)
  • Location:Stockport

Role Overview:You will work in special school settings, supporting pupils with complex learning needs, including autism and profound multiple learning disabilities. Collaborate with teaching and support staff to implement universal communication strategies, ensuring a shared responsibility for students' communication needs throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a clinical caseload, working with teachers, class teams, and the wider MDT.
  • Liaise with parents, families, and carers, advising on speech, language, and communication development.
  • Provide clinical supervision to junior Speech and Language Therapist colleagues.
  • Develop assessment reports and intervention plans for individual pupils.
  • Ensure clinical practice is up-to-date and evidence based.
  • Participate in education/training opportunities, appraise research articles, and utilise audit and research in daily practice.
  • Maintain a personal CPD portfolio to meet Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT) & Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration requirements.

About You:

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Evidence of recent professional development.
  • Current registration with RCSLT and HCPC.
  • Experience using standardised assessments.
  • Experience in special educational settings.
  • Experience working with young people and adults with complex needs, including autism and profound multiple learning disabilities.
  • Knoweldege of relevant Speech & Language Therapy assessments and outcome measures.
  • Understanding of safeguarding requirements and helping young people with communication difficulties stay safe.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity.
