Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic SLT to work with us in Barnet, in our Adult Planned Care Service and one of the following, Early Supported Discharge, Rehabilitation Wards, Parkinson’s Service or Ageing Well.

The service is currently in the process of forming a Band 6 rotation which will comprise a split role. Part time static post in Planned Care including clinical triage, and part time rotation through the above named services. The successful candidate will be entered into the rotation once it is rolled out.

The Planned Care service provides assessment and rehabilitation for adults with an acquired speech, language, communication and/or swallow difficulties both home and out-patient clinic settings. We work closely with other healthcare professionals, services and agencies and wider CLCH adult community services.

Working within a cohort of SLTs, this post creates a great opportunity for someone who is conscientious and adaptable to deliver forward thinking, progressive rehabilitation to patients in their own home as well as in a clinic environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate an adaptable approach whilst meeting guidelines and standards.

You will form an essential part of a dedicated, knowledgeable SLT team that regularly engages with team and individual clinical supervision, frequent in-service training sessions as well as peer support that spans across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will maintain responsibility for an individual clinical caseload within the wider multidisciplinary teams that you are a part of, supporting people with communication and swallowing difficulties.

Patients are seen in their own homes or community settings including clinics at Finchley Memorial Hospital, Child’s Hill and Vale drive, with the main office base being located at Edgware Community Hospital. All team members are fully agile working, enabling blended in-person and virtual sessions to be delivered as best meets client needs.

Education/Qualification
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • License to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
  • Evidence of registration with the HCPC
  • Basic Dysphagia Training or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses relevant to speech/language/communication issues for adults
  • Counselling skills training
  • Other appropriate courses relevant to the case-load
Experience
  • Appropriate experience of working with an adult case-load, including work with broad range of acquired neurological conditions including complex dysphagia
  • Experience of working with adults requiring home enteral tube feeding
  • Team work, in a multidisciplinary context.
  • Experience of working with relatives and carers.
  • Experience of provision of training packages
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff/support workers
  • Experience of working in acute and community settings (including care homes)
  • Appropriate experience of working with an adult case-load, including work with broad range of acquired neurological conditions including complex dysphagia
  • Experience of working with adults requiring home enteral tube feeding

Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of stroke and neurological and degenerative illnesses and their management, national policies and procedures.
  • Well established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions around issues surrounding disability and rehabilitation. Well established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group as outlined above.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written. Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Group
Other
  • Ability to travel around the community and visit patients in a variety of settings, in hospital and at home, with ease. Clean current UK driving licence.
  • Able to meet the required IT Skills for the post
