Job Summary

Are you passionate about Learning Disability and Neurodiversity? Could you work as a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist within our new service providing a 10-bed regional inpatient unit for people with learning disabilities and/or autism with treatable mental health needs? Do you want to work in an organization committed to meeting your needs and those of patients?

We seek a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and innovative Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our team, working alongside a Professional Lead, an Advanced SLT, and an SLT Assistant Practitioner, with strong links to community teams. You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, helping shape and develop high-quality care and support the transition to our state-of-the-art new unit designed with clinicians and service users.

Job Description

The main purpose is to improve outcomes for adults with learning disabilities and autism through assessments, interventions, consultation, and collaboration with local health and social providers. The role includes professional supervision and adherence to guidelines by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Responsibilities include:

• Effective communication with patients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Supporting professional and clinical development, supervision, and training.
• Managing caseloads with clinical judgment, ensuring quality care and service development.
• Contributing to policy development, service evaluation, research, and audit.
• Maintaining equipment, records, and participating in governance and safety procedures.

Person Specification

Essential qualifications include a recognized SLT qualification, HCPC registration, and evidence of CPD. Desirable qualifications include postgraduate dysphagia training. Experience should include working with adults with learning disabilities/autism and in multidisciplinary teams. Supervisory experience is desirable.

Additional requirements
