Overview

A vacancy within Pathology – Blood Sciences at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. Biomedical Scientist grade depends on qualifications, experience and potential. After training, will work across all laboratory sections: Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion. Analytical equipment includes Roche Cobas c8000, Sysmex XN 2000, Werfen ACL TOP and Bio‑Rad IH‑500.

Responsibilities
  • Process pathology samples.
  • Enter patient requests and results using a LIMS.
  • Perform routine and complex pathology investigations.
  • Use a calibrated pipette accurately.
  • Load/unload and file samples.
  • Use and maintain automated analytical platforms.
  • Validate patient results using laboratory middleware (B5/B6).
  • Clinically authorize patient results (B6 only).
  • Interpret internal and external controls.
  • Day‑to‑day supervisory responsibility over lower‑grade support staff.
  • Communicate results and queries with service users by telephone or other means.
Requirements

Biomedical scientist required to have good communication and keyboard skills, ability to work under pressure, work independently once fully trained, and participation in 24hr shift service required.
