Job summary

Colbern Limited, acting on behalf of a public authority, is seeking a Highway Maintenance Officer in Huntingdon. The role oversees highway maintenance works to keep the network safe, handling reactive, preventative and cyclical schemes and coordinating with local communities.

You will inspect the network, record findings, and ensure operations align with policies. A Highway Safety Inspector qualification and vehicle access are required; work at a depot in Cambridgeshire at least four days a week.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years in Highways & Transport or similar role.
• Proven ability to coordinate reactive maintenance and responses.
• Experience engaging with elected members and communities.

Highway Maintenance Officer

Huntingdon

Contract. £250 per day limited paid via umbrella company inside IR35

Our client is looking for an experienced Highway Maintenance Officer

To oversee and manage highway maintenance works to ensure that the highway network is managed and maintained to a safe standard for the benefit of our communities. By implementing reactive, preventative, and cyclical maintenance schemes, the Highway Maintenance Officer will contribute to the effective management of Cambridgeshire's highway network, inclusive of footways, cycle routes, carriageways, and public rights of way.

To work closely with local communities to ensure that the County Council maintains the highway to a standard which aligns with local aspirations and needs and by keeping communities and customers informed of our works, the Highway Maintenance Officer will contribute to achieving a high level of customer satisfaction.

By reacting to highway incidents (e.g., flooding or damage caused by traffic collisions), the Highway Maintenance Officer plays a vital role as the Council's front-line representative on the network.

Key Requirements

• Must have at least 5yrs experience working in Highways & Transport in a similar role, undertaking reactive maintenance activities including coordinating emergency responses.
• Must have an understanding of how to engage with and manage elected members proactively.
• Must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for site visits.
• Must attend and work from a depot within Cambridgeshire minimum of 4 x per week. This is an operational role.
• Must be a qualified Highway Safety Inspector and have in a date certificate / qualification to evidence this.
• Must have experience managing customer reports and enquiries through a digital system and reactively inspecting defects in line with set policies and procedures.
