Job description

Golden Hello eligible! A Golden Hello payment of £2000 (£1000 upon commencement and a further £1000 after successful completion of the 6th month probation) will be made, provided eligibility terms are met.

We have a position available for a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist. We will also consider newer graduates wishing to develop into the post. Why join us? The position offers opportunities to work in specialist clinics such as Nail Surgery, Musculoskeletal, and Wound Care, while also providing care to high and medium risk patients and assessing new patients. A domiciliary caseload is also part of the service.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop your skills in a more specialist role or for new graduates to progress from Band 5 to Band 6 over 12 months, contingent on successful completion of the developmental program.

Main duties of the job

Your role as a Band 6 Podiatrist will be to provide a highly effective, comprehensive foot health and protection service for the population of CSH Surrey at various clinical sites, including in patients' homes, working towards the objectives and values of CSH Surrey.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assessing, diagnosing, developing treatment plans, and providing effective podiatric treatments based on clinical need and evidence-based practice. Emphasis on patient empowerment and independence through education and information.
  2. Working as an autonomous clinician within professional, departmental, and CSH guidelines, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and advising patients, carers, GPs, and other healthcare professionals.
  3. Maintaining accurate records, participating in clinical rotations, and engaging in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  4. Staying updated with clinical and professional developments, maintaining CPD and mandatory training, and participating in professional development reviews.
  5. Communicating effectively with patients, carers, relatives, GPs, and other health professionals.

Job responsibilities

Role Summary

To provide a highly effective, comprehensive foot health service for the population of CSH Surrey.

  • To assess needs and deliver quality podiatric care in various settings across CSH Surrey, maintaining patients' mobility, independence, and preventing disability.

Clinical Duties

  • Assess, diagnose, develop treatment plans, and provide effective podiatric treatments, often for patients with complex medical conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, vascular issues, disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Provide early intervention to enable long-term benefits.
  • Educate and empower patients to manage their foot health independently, including education sessions for new and existing patients.
  • Work across diverse sites, including patients' homes, clinics, GP practices, and hospitals, often independently, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams when necessary.
  • Manage clinical risks within your caseload, seeking guidance as needed.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures with appropriate equipment, interpret and report findings.
  • Conduct neurological and vascular assessments, wound management, and minor surgical interventions such as nail surgeries.
  • Prescribe, manufacture, and dispense orthotics and insoles, referring to specialists as needed.
  • Maintain a domiciliary caseload, managing appointments and using clinical time effectively.
  • Keep comprehensive, accurate records and update patient histories.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice, and teaching of students and junior staff.

  • Work autonomously within guidelines, using clinical reasoning for positive outcomes.
  • Maintain awareness of scope of practice and collaborate with peers and professionals.
  • Stay current with clinical and professional developments, maintaining a professional portfolio and CPD hours.
  • Engage in clinical governance activities, audits, and standard development.
  • Attend mandatory training and participate in personal development plans.

Organizational

  • Align with the objectives and values of CSH Surrey.
  • Manage operational aspects of assigned clinics, including supplies, equipment, and health and safety compliance.
  • Ensure proper documentation and utilization of IT systems.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and equipment issues promptly.
  • Secure clinic rooms, equipment, and supplies during visits.

Communication & Working Relationships

  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives, and health professionals, providing clear information and support.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to team meetings and service development.
  • Participate in health promotion activities and liaise with administrative staff as needed.
