Specialist Physiotherapist (Rotational)
Band 6
Job overview

Are you an experienced physiotherapist looking for your next challenge? Do you enjoy the fast-paced nature of acute therapy? Do you want the opportunity to work at a large Teaching Hospital trust? Then look no further, we have the opportunity that is right for you.

This vacancy sits in the Rehabilitation Wheel of our Band 6 Rotations at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and included core inpatient rehabilitation areas of Stroke, Critical Care, Neurosurgery, Acute Medical, Neurorehabilitation and Acute Neurology.

We are working hard to grow the opportunities across the Band 6 level and are hopeful that we will soon be adding more opportunities in other rotational wheels in areas such as Neurosciences, Critical Care, Major Trauma, Oncology and Acute Assessment and Frailty.

The rotations are 9 months long giving your plenty of time to get stuck in, whilst also building on your experience with a variety of opportunities. We pride ourselves on being rehab legends and providing the best possible care for our patients whilst increasing their independence.

Main duties of the job

So what does a normal day look like? It’ll start with a morning board round with the MDT to identify patients appropriate for therapy. Once you’ve prioritised your day you’ll be able to crack on with the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of a variety of patients with complex needs. We think setting SMART goals is really important for the patients we are rehabilitating so that’s something you’ll be involved in too.

We are an integrated team so it’s likely that you’ll be spending time with the Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants in your area of work. Our Therapy Assistants are the perfect people to continue any exercise programmes you have put into place.

Service and personal development is pretty important to us too. We have a comprehensive in-house Neuro teaching programme which you can attend as well as opportunities and support to consolidate knowledge and skills to allow competent respiratory and on-call working through a blended learning individualised training programme, to maintain and build confidence in supporting the on-call physiotherapy service.

Working for our organisation

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path within Core Therapies and our division but also within the regional neurosciences and major trauma areas too.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We know we are biased, but we really want to convey this is a fabulousopportunity, in which you will be fully supported by the existing therapy teams and the Professional Leads.

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • You will have excellent communication skills to enhance your working relationships and interactions with patients as well as a strong rehabilitation focus.
  • You should have clinical experience of working with complex patients and have the skills to provide acute assessments, deliver effective treatment plans and to complete complex discharge planning.
  • The ability to complete effective and regular liaison and joint working with the MDT including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, medics, psychology, community and voluntary services would be really beneficial too.

When you’re not treating patients you’ll have the opportunity to provide supervision and appraisal to our Band 5 colleagues, Therapy Assistants and Students. There is also a Band 6 Physiotherapy forum that meets each month that provides a safe space for discussion with your peers as well as presentations and training from a range of speakers. We work in a fast paced environment and can promise that you’ll never be bored or short of things to do!

Please note we are unable to provide relocation packages for overseas applicants.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) when writing job applications

If you choose to use AI or other tools to assist in writing your application, it's essential to personalise this information, particularly your supporting information section. While AI can help streamline the writing process, these tools cannot fully grasp the context or requirements of the job you’re applying for. There is also a risk that it can generate false or misleading information.

AI-generated job applications can often be generic, impersonal and may not accurately reflect your qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experiences. It is crucial that you personalise your supporting statement by articulating these in your unique voice. Relying solely on AI to write your application or supporting information section is not advocated by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and could negatively impact your chances of success in the application process.

We have added a disclaimer to our application process advising that the use of AI is monitored and if applicants have used it then they are required to declare this.

The supporting information section is an opportunity for you to showcase how your qualifications, knowledge, skill and experiences align with the requirements and criteria outlined in the job description and person.

Our recruiting managers score applications based on the criteria listed in the person specification. They will be looking for evidence of how you meet these criteria. To increase your chances of securing an interview, provide examples of how you have applied your skills and knowledge in real-life situations. Share work-related successes and challenges you’ve navigated that align with the criteria. These could be from various aspects of your life, including work, education, and personal experiences.

Consider structuring your supporting information section with clear headings or bullet points. This approach will help both you and the recruiting manager navigate through your application more effectively.
