Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The current expansion of the Acute Medical Team workforce is adding several additional staff members across all disciplines to complement and strengthen the service's rehabilitation focus. This will create enhanced opportunities for early multidisciplinary intervention, improved patient flow, reduce deconditioning, and ensure person‑centred rehabilitation throughout the acute care pathway. The recent addition of a dedicated rehabilitation space further supports the team's vision of embedding rehabilitation within Acute Medicine. This Specialist Physiotherapist position’s will be instrumental in ensuring the team is successful with this change to service.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative Physiotherapist to join our Acute Medical Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast‑paced multidisciplinary environment, providing high‑quality, person‑centred assessment and intervention for adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and discharge planning needs.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting patients to maximise independence, promote safe and timely discharge. You will work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, and a wide range of health and social care professionals. You will identify barriers to independence, and develop tailored rehabilitation plans that support recovery and improve outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive team environment where innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement are actively encouraged. The successful candidate will provide clinical supervision and support to junior Physiotherapy staff, Healthcare Support Workers, and students, contributing to teaching, learning, and workforce development within the Acute Medical Team while fostering a positive learning environment and promoting evidence‑based practice.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Permanent
  • Glasgow Royal Infirmary
  • The successful candidate will be required to participate in the Physiotherapy weekend rota as part of the service's 7-day working arrangements and the on-call rota.
