Job summary

NHS Borders Borders Eye Centre in Melrose is inviting a Specialist Orthoptist with a special interest in glaucoma to join a supportive orthoptic and ophthalmology team. The role is permanent, 36 hours per week, with training opportunities and progression to Band 6 after completing the BIOS/Preceptorship programmes.

You will work in adult and paediatric motility clinics, participate in community screening and reading difficulties clinics, and provide teaching to undergraduate students.

Qualifications

• Registered Orthoptist with HCPC registration.
• Clinical experience in ophthalmology and glaucoma preferred.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice and professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the orthoptic service.
• Provide autonomous clinic sessions with appropriate support when needed.
• Contribute to teaching and supervision of students and staff.
• Travel to outreach clinics as required.
