Job summary

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Orthoptist (Band 6) to join a team of 10. The role involves paediatric clinics, ocular motility, neuro-ophthalmology, and support for the medical retina team, with opportunities for theatre work and injections.

Requirements include Orthoptics degree and HCPC registration; newly qualified orthoptists may start at Band 5. The department emphasizes teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration and CPD within a busy hospital

Qualifications

• Current HCPC registration.
• Orthoptic Degree or equivalent.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
• BIOS teaching course, preceptorship or mentoring qualification.
• BIOS membership or separate Medical and Professional Liability Insurance.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, diagnose and manage orthoptic referrals.
• Formulate ongoing treatment plans for a range of conditions.
• Liaise with ophthalmology and other professionals as appropriate.
• Dispense medication per patient group directives/medical exemptions.
• Communicate complex information to patients and carers.
• Demonstrate commitment to CPD and Clinical Governance.
