Specialist Nurse Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to come and join our team at SHPU and work as a Specialist Nurse - Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Treatment Suite Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist service delivering safe, high-quality and evidence - based care to patients who are receiving ECT.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively across a wide range of professionals as part of an MDT as well as working autonomously.

We are looking highly motivated and experienced individual who is passionate about providing person centred and compassionate patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist nursing leadership and clinical expertise within the ECT suite, ensuring safe effective and person centered care. The post holder will be responsible for coordinating ECT before, during and after treatment and will work closely with the MDT to ensure high standards of care.

Key responsibilities will include (not exclusive) undertaking patient assessments, monitoring of physical and mental health and supporting patients, families and carers throughout the process.

The post also includes maintaining ECTAS accreditation and working within these guidelines, ensuring the adherence to legal frameworks and both local and national policies.

The post holder will support service development, provide supervision and support junior staff whilst maintaining accurate clinical records. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

Knowledge and skills
  • oKnowledge and Experience in ECT
  • oWorking knowledge and understanding of adult and older adult with organic and functional mental health issues at least 2 years.
  • oParticipation in staff training / development oIT Literate
  • oAbility to respond to the individual rights/needs/opinions of patients and carers
  • oAbility to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • oKnowledge of and ability in implementing and practicing supervision and appraisals
  • oBudget Management training
  • oHR - sickness/absence training
Training and qualifications
  • oRegistered Nurse-Mental health
  • oDegree or equivalent.
  • oSpecialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices.
  • oProfessional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by training and/or combination of additional post registration/postgraduate specialist training, experience and/or short course, CPD or equivalent.
  • oDiploma in Leadership and Management for Health & Social Care Level 5 or equivalent ( or willing to work towards

  • oExperience and evidence of working with adult and older people with mental health problems
  • oDemonstrable experience of ability to undertake the role
