NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint an enthusiastic colleague to the post of Specialist Doctor in Acute Oncology to lead the development of an Acute Oncology Service within Forth Valley Hospital.

A key part of this Acute Oncology role is education and collaboration – particularly in the rapidly evolving field of new therapeutics and toxicities. The Acute Oncology Service would look to offer education to Primary and Secondary care teams, to optimise diagnostics and early interventions for symptom and toxicity management, aiming to reduce hospital admissions. Similarly, using education, liaison support and follow-up mechanisms to empower medical teams to shorten hospital stays.

It is essential that the candidate applying for this post has broad experience in Acute Oncology.

  • Acute oncology “hot clinics” – Typical referrals may include symptom management of cancer or SACT toxicity or support in diagnostics for new advanced cancer diagnosis or malignancy of unknown origin
  • Outpatient follow-up after “hot clinics” and admissions. Often this would be phone support in collaboration with Oncology CNS team, alongside facilitation of outpatient supportive therapies such as blood transfusion, IV steroid administration etc.
  • Support and involvement in Nurse and other Allied Health professionals’ training/supervision
  • Participation in Clinical Audit and Service Development

This job description is neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the duties and responsibilities may vary from time to time in the lights of changing circumstances and in consultation with the job holder.
