Qualifications

Are you a compassionate Dietitian with experience working with people with mental illness? Join Thornford Park as a Specialist Dietitian.

As a Specialist Dietitian, you will support service users within the hospital’s secure mental health and learning disabilities services with a range of conditions, working as part of a uni-professional and multi-professional team.

You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the dietetic service across the hospital, supporting the ongoing implementation of the Hospital’s Nutrition and Hydration Strategy, and helping enable people to make informed, healthier choices regarding eating and drinking.

With experience managing a caseload using both theoretical and practical knowledge, you will complete assessments, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes aligned with care plans.

This role offers opportunities for clinical supervision and training to enhance your skills and development.

With a strong emphasis on teamwork, you’ll receive support from local and regional healthcare networks and access various training courses to support your career growth.

Initially, this is a 0.4 WTE permanent role with support from the current lead dietitian.

As a Specialist Dietitian, you will:

  • Be involved in developing a needs-led service.
  • Provide both individual and group dietetic clinical services.
  • Conduct assessments, plan, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes as per individual care pathways, supporting patients in self-maintenance, productivity, and leisure.
  • Collaborate with patients to plan and implement interventions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including care notes and reports, following hospital and professional standards.
  • Establish effective communication with patients, carers, staff, and other agencies.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based therapeutic activities to support mental health recovery.
  • Provide training and education as a central part of this role.
  • Maintain close working relationships with professional and clinical colleagues.
  • Contribute professionally and liaise with clinical teams, disciplines, and external agencies.

To be successful in this role:

  • Diploma or degree in Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 & CPA
  • Experience working in a similar setting

Where you will be working:

You will work at Thornford Park, which includes medium secure and low secure units and rehabilitation flats. The service provides a seamless care pathway supporting recovery and rehabilitation. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide personalized assessments and treatment programs for males with mental illness, complex care needs, and personality disorders. Service users may have histories of offending or previous placement difficulties.
