Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and adaptable clinical psychologist eager to develop experience, knowledge, and skills in Paediatric Specialties. The role involves contributing to the care provided by the lifetime Barth Syndrome Service (0.2FTE) and paediatric gastroenterology (0.65FTE) services, possibly increasing to 0.85FTE with additional funding. This is a Band 8A post, but it may be offered as a Band 7 preceptorship. The department provides a comprehensive preceptorship development program supervised by senior psychologists, along with CPD opportunities such as departmental meetings, journal clubs, and supervision groups. Our department offers services across various multidisciplinary teams, and we welcome applications for wider opportunities within our portfolio.

Main duties of the job
  • Develop and provide specialist clinical health psychology services for young people and adolescents, including assessments and individualized care plans.
  • Deliver care through direct and indirect clinical work in outpatient and inpatient settings, utilizing psychometric assessments.
  • Provide teaching and training to professionals on psychological knowledge and skills relevant to physical health conditions.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychology recognized by HCPC.
  • Current HCPC registration.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience working with children/young people with physical health conditions.
  • Post-qualification experience in clinical work within healthcare settings.
  • Experience providing psychological consultation, supervision, and training.
  • Understanding of health conditions' impact on young people and families.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and psychological care standards.
  • Doctoral-level knowledge of research methods.
Desirable
  • Supervisory experience and accredited supervision training.
  • Experience in paediatric services.
Skills and Abilities
  • Assessment skills using cognitive and developmental tests.
  • Formulation and intervention development based on psychological theories.
  • Advanced communication skills, culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate.
  • Data management and record-keeping skills.
  • Time management and prioritization.
