Job summary

Medica Group in Runcorn (Cheshire) is seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to lead our growing pathology team in a fast-evolving digital environment. This hands-on leadership role oversees lab operations including reception, scanning and quality control; mentors Digital Pathology staff; ensures ISO 15189/27001/9001 compliance; troubleshoots issues and supports AI integration.

Qualifications

  • HCPC registration essential.
  • Specialist BMS portfolio completed essential.
  • Experience in Histology and specimen selection.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Wet-lab experience and digital pathology knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee lab operations including specimen reception, scanning, and quality control.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Digital Pathology Assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards (15189, 27001, 9001).
  • Troubleshoot lab issues and manage client queries.
  • Contribute to exciting projects including AI integration and wet-lab expansion.

Location:Runcorn Office, Cheshire

Hours:Full-time, 37.5 hrs/week

Salary:Up to £50,000 DOE

Plus access to annual bonus

Medica is seeking a dynamic Specialist Biomedical Scientistto join our growing Pathology team at our state-of-the-art hub in Runcorn.

About the Role

As our Specilaist BMS, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering high-quality digital and glass telepathology services. You’ll manage a small but mighty team, drive operational excellence, and collaborate across departments to ensure we meet and exceed client expectations.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll:

  • Oversee lab operations including specimen reception, scanning, and quality control.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Digital Pathology Assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards (15189, 27001, 9001).
  • Troubleshoot lab issues and manage client queries.
  • Contribute to exciting projects including AI integration and wet-lab expansion.
