Job summary

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Health Care Support Worker to assist in Elms Bank Special School & College. You will support children and young people with SEND, under qualified nurses, promoting independence and wellbeing.

You will work with education staff, therapists, and families to ensure safe, inclusive learning. Experience in special schools and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
• GCSE English and Maths (grade 4) or Level 2 Functional Skills.
• Awareness of illness/disability impact on child and carers.
• Confidentiality and data protection knowledge.
• Safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Awareness of equality and diversity.
• Experience with children and young people with SEND/disability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in special schools preferred.
• Clinical skills: medicines administration, observations, tracheostomy care.

Responsibilities

• Support children and young people with healthcare needs, promoting independence.
• Work with qualified nurses, education staff, therapies, and families.
• Deliver planned programmes of care to minimise education disruption.
• Interact as part of the multi-agency team to meet individual health needs.
