Job description

Location: Basingstoke
Pay rate: Up to £13.75 per hour
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only

We are seeking a passionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work within a Special Needs school based in Basingstoke. The role will involve supporting SEN students, managing behaviours, supporting the implementation of personalised learning plans (IEP's) and having a person-centred, trauma-informed approach. A strong candidate will demonstrate efficient knowledge in safeguarding and crisis management, and exude a friendly and confident personality.

The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with Special Needs students who need additional support, helping them to engage in the curriculum, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. You will work in a supportive environment where collaboration with teachers, other LSAs, and support staff is key to meeting the diverse needs of our students. Your role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN needs.
  • Helping students to access the curriculum and overcome any potential learning barriers.
  • Supporting students in developing emotional regulation and coping strategies.
  • Working closely with the SENCO and other staff to monitor and track student progress.
  • Assisting with behaviour management and supporting positive social interaction.
  • Encouraging independence and self-confidence in students.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally those with SEMH or SEND needs, is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and understanding approach, with the ability to respond to challenging situations in a positive manner.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • A passion for helping students achieve their potential and overcome barriers to learning.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of creating a safe, supportive environment.
  • A willingness to learn, develop and attend training to enhance your skills and knowledge.
