Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of college study (48 college credit hours) with required courses.
• Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum ETS Parapro Exam score of 450.

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
• Assists teachers in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.
• Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assists students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
• Assists students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene; including catheterization, after proper training is provided
• Helps manage the behavior of students and intervenes in crisis situations as needed.
• Learns and adapts to each student's special medical, physical, communicative needs.
• Works with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
• Supervises students during lunch, bus, and playground duty.
• Keeps teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Participates in staff development, meetings, and events as assigned.
• Maintains confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
• Adheres to safety rules and district policies.
