Role Description
This is a full-time or part-time role for a Special Education Advisor, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, with clients across England. The main responsibilities include providing educational consulting and advice to parents, teachers, and school staff, developing and implementing education, health, and care plans for learners, coordinating with other professionals, and liaising with Local Authorities to secure appropriate provision and funding.
The role involves school assessment visits, observations, report writing to identify pupil needs, and recommending enhancements to provision. Building good relationships and collaboration are essential. The advisor will also conduct training sessions for schools to promote best practices in special education and work with multidisciplinary teams including therapists and other agencies.
This position is suited for a senior leader or SENDCo seeking to shift from direct classroom teaching to advisory roles. It is office-based with travel across the country. Typical working hours are 37.5 per week, with potential for extended days due to travel, which can be compensated as time in lieu. The role requires knowledge of SEND law to advise on EHCPs and provision. The workload varies weekly, including meetings, calls, visits, and report writing. The postholder should have strong SEND expertise, a passion for supporting children aged 3-25, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The role is not term-time only, with holiday entitlement of approximately 9 weeks per year. Salary is commensurate with experience.
