Job summary

National Highways is seeking an Assistant Spatial Planner to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Yorkshire North-East region. You will assist in ensuring developments are well located and planned for, and that travel demands are sustainable.

You will collaborate with Spatial Planners, local authorities, and developers to assess transport impacts and identify necessary mitigation on our road network, while managing your own caseloads and coordinating with other teams.

Qualifications

  • Have a prior understanding of spatial planning or town planning/transport planning.
  • Be aware of statutory and regulatory responsibilities/standards.
  • Understand the importance of transport-related issues in spatial planning.
  • Have knowledge of transport appraisal techniques and guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage your own caseloads and coordinate with other parts of the organisation.
  • Assist Spatial Planners and work with local authorities and developers on transport impacts.
  • Help identify funding opportunities for road network improvements linked to development.
  • Discharge responsibilities as a statutory consultee and escalate complex cases as needed.
  • Prepare planning consultation responses and development consent order administration.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and share information on emerging strategies and programmes.
