Job summary

Charterhouse is seeking a native Spanish speaker for a fixed-term role to teach speaking, exam prep and cultural understanding to Sixth Form and Year 9 students within a residential school setting.

The post offers a pathway to extension up to two years, with a structured introduction to classroom practice in a large Modern Languages team. Degree-level education and strong Spanish skills are required.

Qualifications

• Native speaker of Spanish with fluent oral and written skills.
• Degree-level education or equivalent.
• Experience preparing students for oral examinations.
• Awareness of GCSE/A-level curricula; IBDP awareness desirable.
• Good communication, interpersonal and administrative skills; ICT competence.
• Willingness to take part in boarding-house duties and co-curricular activities.
• Prior classroom or tutoring experience desirable.
• Experience supporting differentiated learning and exam preparation.

Responsibilities

• Teach Sixth Form speaking exams through discussions, role plays, presentations, debates and article analysis.
• Support Year 9 native-speaker groups and GCSE oral exam practice.
• Assist Sixth Form with essay structure, vocabulary and idiom.
• Create and record listening and reading resources and contribute to teaching materials.
• Assess pupil progress and liaise with Head of Language and tutors.
• Promote Spanish through clubs, events, films and cultural activities.
• Attend departmental meetings and contribute to extra-curricular activities.
• Participate in boarding-house duties and provide tutoring within a House.
