Job summary

Bupa is recruiting a Sous Chef Bank for Richmond Witney Village. You will assist the Head Chef to deliver high-quality meals across the village and associated facilities, working in a fast-paced kitchen with a focus on safety and dietary requirements.

The role emphasizes culinary creativity, leadership, and a commitment to an excellent dining experience for residents, with a flexible bank shift pattern and strong work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Passionate about food with experience in a professional kitchen and catering for dietary requirements.
• NVQ or City & Guilds and CIEH Level 2 Food Safety qualification or equivalent.
• Open to new ideas with an innovative, organized approach to cooking and high standards under busy service.

Responsibilities

• Support Head Chef in delivering exceptional culinary experiences.
• Prepare and cook food in line with food hygiene regulations.
• Be aware of residents' dietary needs and adapt menus accordingly.
• Assist with preparation and serving on the hotplate during service.
• Maintain a welcoming, safe, and hygienic dining environment for residents.
• Keep working areas clean and compliant with food safety standards.

As Sous Chef, you will play a key role in supporting Head Chef in delivering exceptional culinary experiences. This is a fantastic chance for someone ready to take the next step in their career, bringing creativity, leadership, and a passion for food to a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

You'll help us make health happen by

• Catering to residents across the Village which comprises of the care home, catering for serviced suites, villagers who have booked a meal in the Restaurant/Spa or for meals to be taken across to their apartments or for other specific events
• Prepare and cook food in accordance with food hygiene regulations
• Be aware of residents, villagers and Wellness Spa clients' dietary needs - responding to their comments and requests in respect of the menu
• Be involved in the preparation and serving of the meals on the hotplate, as required
• Ensuring that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention paid to perishable (high risk) goods
• Ensuring a welcoming, safe and compliant environment for our residents to dine in
• Helping to maintain a clean and hygienic working area.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

Passionate about food, you'll have experience working in a professional kitchen, ideally catering for customers with special dietary requirements. An understanding of health and safety procedures, ideally with an NVQ or equivalent City & Guilds and CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Award or Equivalent. Open to new ideas, you'll have an innovative yet organised approach to cooking, always adhering to high standards and remaining calm during a busy service. You'll enjoy working with others, working together to create and deliver an excellent dining experience at each meal.
