Qualifications

  • PG certificate in medical ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology from a CASE accredited institute required.
  • Extensive postgraduate experience in obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in reporting complex ultrasound.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report ultrasound scans for obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Communicate findings to patients and ensure quality of examinations.
  • Assist in training student sonographers.

Job description

We are looking for a Reporting Sonographer for our Maternity & Gynaecology Department.

We only accept applications from a PG certificate in medical ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology from a CASE accredited institute

Main duties of the job
  • Performing transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound scans for all types of obstetric and gynaecology scans.
  • Reporting findings and making appropriate referrals to multidisciplinary team as well as communicating findings to patients.
  • Performing and reporting ultrasound scans for obstetrics, including screening for nuchal translucency, anomaly, growth scans, early pregnancy, and gynaecology scans.
About us

The Maternity Ultrasound Department consists of a team of sonographers, 2 healthcare assistants, and 2 fetal medicine specialists.

The department provides ultrasound scans throughout pregnancy as well as gynaecological scans.

Job responsibilities
  • Formulate and issue clinical reports.
  • Assist in training student sonographers.
  • Promote effective professional practices by independently undertaking and interpreting obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations at the main Royal Berkshire Hospital site and satellite units.
  • Participate in advanced clinical practice.
  • Use clinical judgment for independent decision-making.
  • Support service development and innovation.
  • Maintain professionalism and uphold the department's reputation.
  • Observe confidentiality regarding patient, staff, and NHS information.
  • Participate in out-of-hours work as required.
  • Undertake other duties within the scope of the post as delegated by the Lead Practitioner/Manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
  • Extensive postgraduate experience in obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound examinations.
  • Experience of quality and clinical audits, statistical analysis, teaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in reporting complex ultrasound, including fetal anomaly screening.
  • Experience in staff supervision, teaching, and training.
  • Participation in quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Experience in problem solving, critical analysis, and change management.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Experience working in a maternity and gynaecology unit.
Education / Qualifications & Training
  • Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound (Obs & Gynae).
  • DQASS or FMF accreditation in 1st trimester screening (desirable).
Experience
  • Postgraduate ultrasound experience.
  • Experience within a maternity unit.
Professional Skills
  • Good ultrasound skills with high-quality image production and interpretation.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and staff.
