Job summary

NHS Highland seeks an experienced sonographer to join the Ultrasound team at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. You will contribute to a high-quality, non-obstetric ultrasound service across multiple sites and report findings to the relevant clinician.

The role requires UK registration, CASE accreditation, and a track record of performing numerous scans with accurate documentation. You will participate in training and audit activities within a dynamic radiology department.

Qualifications

• Must hold PG (Cert), PG (Dip) or equivalent.
• UK Registered Sonographer on the HCPC specialist register, or equivalent.
• CASE accredited qualification is essential.
• Up-to-date knowledge of ultrasound practices and guidelines.
• Able to perform and report a high volume of scans (≥900 in last 12 months).
• Must have UK work history for the past 12 months and a valid driving licence.

An opportunity has arisen within NHS Highland for a sonographer who will work as part of the dynamic Ultrasound team based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and peripheral sites.

We provide a comprehensive (non-obstetric) ultrasound service to a wide range of specialities within the hospital and local GP's.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic sonographer to join our team. The department is integrated into the Radiology Department at Raigmore hospital, and we have one peripheral site in Invergordon, Ross-shire. As a small dynamic team we work to deliver innovation and excellence in ultrasound practice.

There is an ongoing commitment to participate in our training programmes for trainee sonographers and specialist trainee registrars. You need to be able to work independently, demonstrating a high level of competence and will need to demonstrate excellent communication and reporting skills.

Currently the department operates 5 days a week but this may change in the future to provide a 7 day service.

The successful candidate essential requirements and experience are:-

• You must hold PG (Cert), PG (Dip) , DMU or equivalent.
• You will be a UK Registered Sonographer on the HCPC specialist register, or equivalent professional body such as NMC.
• CASE accredited qualification is essential - due to current training commitments we are not able to consider applicants with qualifications which are not CASE accredited and where further training would be required.
• You will have up to date knowledge of practices and professional guidelines within ultrasound.
• You will have performed and reported at least 900 ultrasound scans in the last 12 months.
• You will be able to maintain accurate up-to-date records and files.
• You will have been working in the UK for the last 12 months as a reporting sonographer.
• You will have a driving licence.

Main Duties And Responsibilities Include

• To provide an efficient high quality ultrasound service comprising unsupervised scanning sessions within the trust maintaining a high standard of patient care.
• To work as an independent practitioner by performing ultrasound scans to a high diagnostic standard, formulating a report and communicating the results to the appropriate clinician and to accountable for own professional actions.
• Provide specialist advice pertaining to the ultrasound service.
• Responsible for training and supervision of all staff within the ultrasound unit, including radiology registrars and student sonographers.
• To be actively involved and assist with the department Audit, Research and Clinical Governance programme.
• To deputise for the Team Lead Sonographer.
