Job summary

VisitBritain/VisitEngland is seeking a Solutions Architect – Cloud and Security to join the VisitEngland team. You will work with the DCMS group and a third party to understand the STL scheme and ensure the technical solution is secure and compliant with VB/VE architecture.

You will help identify resource needs and budgets for ongoing management, with a role that spans compliance, testing and collaboration across multiple stakeholders in the UK government and industry.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the solution is technically sound and cyber secure, fitting VB/VE target architecture.
• Identify gaps or concerns and assist the DCMS team and development partner in finding appropriate solutions.
• Plan and ensure rigorous testing before handover to VisitEngland.

Location and Ways of Working

We follow the principle of “Locate for your Day,” which means that we expect people to use their own judgement to decide the best place to work to meet the needs of the business.

The majority of our roles can be performed predominantly remotely, however, we are not a fully remote organisation as we recognise the importance of face-to-face connection, so you will be expected to spend some time in the office.

We operate from our Global Hub at Victoria Square House in Birmingham and maintain a small presence in Central London.

Our Global Hub is located in Birmingham, which is our primary location, however, many of our employees are located across the UK. Therefore, working in another location may be required on occasion. You will be expected to commute to your usual place (Birmingham) of work at your own cost and any requests for you to travel further will be compensated.

Main purpose of the role

DCMS is in the final stages of development of the Short Term Lets (STL) scheme. It is envisaged that this scheme will transfer to VisitEngland’s management in late 2026. The scheme will require the owners of STLs to register their property online and pay a registration fee. A registration number will be allocated to the property, and owners will require this before they can advertise. Automated processes are being set up to enable registration numbers to be checked, to avoid errors and fraud, and it is anticipated that offline processes will also be employed.

A Solutions Architect – Cloud and Security will be a key member of a small VisitEngland team, who will work closely with the DCMS team leading the development of the scheme, and the 3rd party who is building the technical solution. Other roles in the team will include a Finance Specialist, Business Analyst with Data specialism, and Senior Digital Product Manager.

The VisitEngland team will be required to gain a detailed understanding of the scheme and the technical solution that is in development. They will flag any concerns they identify with the technical solution and identify the resource profile and budgets required for VisitEngland to manage the scheme in future.

The Solutions Architect Cloud and Security will play an important role, ensuring that the solution in development is technically sound and cyber secure, and fits with the VB/VE target architecture. They will identify any gaps or concerns and assist the DCMS team and development partner in finding appropriate solutions. They will ensure that testing is planned and undertaken with sufficient rigour, and that the solution is fit for purpose before it is handed over to VisitEngland.
