Job summary

Boots is seeking a Solution Architect to lead end-to-end HR transformation design, aligning target architecture with business objectives and guiding HR module implementations including Core HR, Talent and Payroll. You will partner with HR, IT and implementation partners to deliver a scalable, secure solution across geographies.

  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles and SaaS implementation best practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall HR platform architecture and ensure alignment with transformation goals.
  • Translate business requirements into robust, integrated solution designs.
  • Lead creation of end-to-end process flows, data models and security frameworks.
  • Define configuration standards and architectural guardrails for the project.
  • Act as primary design authority with HR, IT and partners.
  • Ensure design is true to the agreed plan across the lifecycle.
  • Assess impact of design changes to meet objectives and requirements.
  • Oversee API usage, middleware patterns and data exchange protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with security, GDPR and data governance policies.
  • Advise on testing non-functional requirements and resolve defects as needed.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager to resolve technical issues and keep on track.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and SI/third-party partners.

Job description

Role: Solution Architect - HR Transformation

Contract: Fixed-Term - 18 Months

Location: Nottingham, Beeston

What you'll be doing:

The Solution Architect will lead the end-to-end solution design for a major HR transformation programme. This role is responsible for defining the target architecture, ensuring alignment with business objectives, and guiding the implementation of HR platform modules such as Core HR, Talent, Payroll, Absence, Recruitment, and Learning. The architect will act as the primary design authority, partnering with HR, IT, and implementation partners to deliver a scalable, secure, and future-proof solution.

As the accountable Solution Architect, they are involved in the full project lifecycle and will ensure that the solution developed is true to the agreed design and/or will manage changes to the design. They will assist the Portfolio Technical Lead and Project Manager to resolve technical issues. Work with Enterprise Architecture to understand Strategy and Roadmaps to identify and deliver appropriate solutions.

Key responsibilities:
  • Own the overall HR platform architecture, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and transformation goals.
  • Translate business requirements into robust, integrated, and compliant solution designs.
  • Lead the creation of end-to-end process flows, data models, and security frameworks.
  • Define configuration standards, design principles, and architectural guardrails for the project.
  • Act as the primary design authority, collaborating with HR, IT, and implementation partners.
  • Ensure that the solution developed is true to the agreed design throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Impact assess proposed design changes throughout the delivery life cycle to ensure that the objectives and requirements of the project are still met.
  • Oversee API usage, middleware patterns, and data exchange protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with security, GDPR, and organisational data governance policies.
  • Advise on testing of non-functional, operational and technical requirements, review results and assist with analysing and resolving defects where required.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Technical Lead to resolve technical issues arising on the project promptly to keep the project on track.
  • Manage relationships with the vendor, SI partners, and third-party vendors.
What you'll need to have (our must-haves):
  • Proven experience in delivering large HR Transformations across geographies in a Solution Architect or Lead Consultant Role.
  • Strong understanding of HR platform data models, integrations, reporting tools, workflows and approvals and data migration tools/methodologies.
  • Proven experience defining target operating models, solution blueprints, and integration architectures.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles and SaaS implementation best practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and drive consensus in fast‑paced environments.
It would be great if you also have:
  • Background in HR process optimisation or HR technology strategy.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.
