The Novel and Compound Facility Glass part of the Zepler Cleanrooms at the University of Southampton is creating the next generation of advanced materials for optical, photonic, and electronic applications.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant team working to develop lithium-doped glass fibre materials for use in solid-state batteries (SSB) alongside our industrial partners, Morgan Advanced Materials Ltd. Through close partnership with our industrial collaborator, the knowledge created will find immediate application in state-of-the-art battery prototypes.
You will be based at the University of Southampton, a research-led institution ranked in the top 1% of world universities. The project will take place within the renowned Optoelectronics Research Centre, which has strong industrial connections and where many optical fibre technologies were first developed. Our cleanroom facilities provide access to advanced research and technologies, with full training and support from the team, enabling career advancement opportunities. You will also have the opportunity to attend Research Technical Professional training events.
Essential requirements include proven laboratory experience with the ability to plan and demonstrate progress in work, a degree in a science-related subject or equivalent industry experience. Basic knowledge of material synthesis and glass fabrication processes is desirable. The position is full-time, 9 AM to 5 PM, 35 hours per week.
