Solicitor – Office of the General Counsel - Contentious work

Our Office of the General Counsel advises on a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious risk issues that arise in delivering professional services across assurance, tax, and advisory sectors.

A look into the role

As a lawyer specializing in contentious work within our in-house legal team, you will:

1. Deal with claims, issues, and projects such as professional liability claims, regulatory issues, professional indemnity insurance, litigation, mediation, and other risk-management issues.
2. Work closely with colleagues to provide solution-focused, commercially pragmatic advice to stakeholders including partners and senior staff.
3. Instruct and manage outside solicitors, counsel, and experts in disputes about professional services.

This role may suit a litigator at a junior or mid-level associate level at a commercial law firm, but applications from all qualified candidates demonstrating the necessary skills are welcome.

Minimum criteria

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial experience in commercial dispute resolution in England and Wales or another common-law jurisdiction.
• Good knowledge of law and procedure related to professional liability, particularly for professional advisers.

Additional desirable skills include understanding risk-management issues faced by professional services firms, pragmatic and commercial approach, self-starting attitude, strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams, and relationship-building skills.
