Job description

We're on the lookout for a Solicitor to join the believe housing team.

We believe in life without barriers, if you think you'd be great in the role, we want to hear from you. We're interested in your skills, experience and personal values and we're committed to being a supportive and inclusive employer.

A flexible approach that works for you

We're a family-friendly organisation, and we encourage everyone to 'work the believe way'; keeping things simple, focusing on what matters and removing unnecessary tasks.

Your working arrangements will be flexible, based on the needs of the role, our customers and your preferences (agreed with your manager). Our offices are in Seaham and Bishop Auckland, and this role will require an on-site presence for part of the week.

Although this role is advertised as full-time, we will consider part-time, job share and alternative working pattern proposals where possible.

About the role

The successful candidate will contribute to our high performing and friendly team of legal professionals providing legal advice and support to one of the largest housing associations in the North East.

You do not have to have worked for a housing association previously. You may have worked in-house for a business, in-house for a public authority or be working in private practice. Your experience and skills may be in property or land law, litigation, housing management, commercial law or another area of practice that would contribute to our team.

We are keen to hear from you if you are as flexible and ambitious as we are to provide a first-class service to the business.

The successful candidate will:

  • Highlight and manage legal, reputational and financial risk
  • Manage a complex and busy workload to ensure that statutory and business timescales are met
  • Act as a role model for ethical conduct and accountability
  • Builds trust and work effectively across departments
  • Anticipates legal and regulatory challenges and opportunities and provide forward-looking solutions
  • Maintain professionalism under pressure and manage conflicts constructively
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently

We offer a competitive salary of £55,890 per annum and:

  • up to 33 days annual leave, plus four volunteering days
  • access to our healthcare scheme
  • flexible working that supports your wellbeing
  • a positive, inclusive culture where growth and development are genuinely encouraged.
