Job summary

Hometree, a leading UK energy services company based in Newcastle upon Tyne, seeks a Solar Sales Consultant to support its residential solar PV sales operations. The role demands strong customer engagement, technical sales capabilities, and effective communication to help clients transition to renewable energy solutions. Candidates should bring a minimum of 2 years' sales experience, preferably in the solar or renewable energy sector, along with solid IT skills. The position offers flexible working options post-training, with a starting base salary of £40,000 per annum plus OTE.

Salary: £40,000 base salary per annum (Plus OTE)

Role type: Permanent

Location: Following a period of office-based training and learning the post offers flexible working, but with an expectation to be in the office once a week. Site visits as needed.

Reporting to: Sales Director

You must have a full clean UK driving license for this role. The company covers all fuel and mileage expenses for site visits.

The Role

The Solar Sales Consultant supports IMSs residential solar PV sales by guiding customers from initial enquiry through to contract agreement. This role involves responding to customer enquiries, designing bespoke solar PV systems, and preparing detailed technical and financial proposals. The consultant engages directly with customers through in-person site visits, ensuring a professional and customer-focused experience that drives the growth of IMS’s solar sales operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Customer Engagement & Account Management: Build and maintain strong customer relationships through site visits and calls, manage accounts throughout the sales cycle, and ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Sales & Lead Management: Follow up on leads, identify upsell opportunities, negotiate contracts, close sales, and support the Sales Manager in achieving targets.
  • Technical Sales & System Design: Analyse survey data, design tailored solar PV systems, and clearly present solutions including ROI, energy savings, and carbon reduction.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with surveyors, designers, and project managers to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Reporting & Industry Insight: Prepare sales forecasts, stay up to date with industry developments, and represent the company at relevant events and exhibitions.
  • Solution Presentation: Present clear information on energy savings, Return on Investment (ROI), and carbon reduction benefits.
  • Industry Knowledge: Keep up to date with solar technology developments, government incentives, and regulations.
  • Company Representation: Represent IMS at events, exhibitions, and community sessions as required.

What we’re looking for:

  • Sales Experience: At least 2+ years of proven sales experience, preferably within solar or renewable energy industries.
  • Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of solar PV systems (training provided if needed).
  • IT Skills: Strong IT skills, including experience managing CRM systems and other business IT platforms.
  • System Design Skills: Skilled in system design and interpreting survey data.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Explanation: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers.
  • Organisation: Highly organised with strong multitasking abilities.
  • Motivation: Self-motivated and target-driven.
  • Teamwork: Comfortable working independently and in a team.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Professionalism: Customer-focused and professional.

Extra credit:

  • Experience with platforms such as Monday.com, Open Solar, Spruce, and simPRO.

  • Initial Call: Start with an introductory call with our Junior Talent Acquisition Specialist to discuss the role and your potential fit. (30 mins)
  • Skills-Based Interview: Engage in a detailed discussion about your past experiences with our Head of Sales (1 hr)
  • Final Interview: Final interview with IMS Sales Director (1 hr)
