Solar PV Power Systems Engineer – Grid Integration

Job summary

Leap29 are seeking an experienced Power Systems Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team and deliver renewable energy projects across the UK. You will design high-quality HV and LV electrical systems for projects ranging from ~200 kW to ~60 MW, spanning pre-construction and construction phases.

You will coordinate grid connections with DNOs, ensure compliance with Grid Code, G99/G100 and ENA requirements, and support procurement, commissioning and energisation activities.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience designing HV and LV electrical systems in power generation or renewables.
• Experience on solar PV projects, commercial or utility-scale.
• Experience managing grid connection applications with DNOs.
• Strong understanding of G99, G100, UK Grid Code and ENA requirements.
• Experience producing and reviewing SLDs, protection philosophies and system architectures.
• Experience undertaking or reviewing power system studies including load flow and fault level.
• Experience using ETAP or similar power system modelling software.
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and prioritisation.

Responsibilities

• Design HV and LV electrical systems for power generation projects, focusing on utility-scale and commercial solar PV.
• Develop and optimise system architectures and SL Diagrams from concept to detailed design.
• Coordinate grid connection applications with the DNO.
• Ensure designs meet Grid Code, G99, G100 and connection requirements.
• Coordinate power system studies: load flow, fault level, protection coordination and power quality.
• Develop specifications for transformers, switchgear, protection, inverters and metering.
• Support protection philosophies and relay settings per grid and DNO requirements.
• Review DNO offers and respond to queries and requirements.
• Provide technical support throughout procurement, FAT/SAT, installation and energisation.
• Participate in design reviews and risk assessments.
• Ensure designs comply with BS, IEC, ENA and project standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, construction teams and suppliers to resolve issues.
