Overview

This role involves providing leadership and mentorship to a distributed technical software team based in central Cambridge. The team develops scientific engineering software used across various industries, including semiconductors, space systems, medical devices, and green energy.

Responsibilities

1. Manage and lead a team of over 20 software engineers, most based in Cambridge, with some globally distributed.
2. Develop strategies and processes to motivate the team, support career development, and provide mentorship from junior to senior levels.
3. Read and debug code; coding is not a primary responsibility.

Requirements

• Strong academic background in engineering, materials, physics, or similar; advanced degrees are a plus.
• Experience as a software engineer with successful releases of C#.NET software; familiarity with SQL, TypeScript, C++, or Python is desirable.
• Management experience leading 10-30 software engineers, including mentoring and project leadership.
• Experience managing geographically distributed teams is desirable.

Additional Details

This is a full-time, mid-senior level position requiring candidates to be based near Cambridge and able to attend the office at least 2 days a week. The role reports directly to the Director of Software and involves a competitive remuneration package.
