Job summary

Apple Inc. in London is seeking a Software Engineer (Virtualisation) to help design and implement virtualisation support across kernel, user-space, and frameworks.

You will work on external devices in virtual machines, contributing to the Virtualisation and AccessoryAccess frameworks, and collaborating with drivers, QA, and hardware teams. You should be proficient in C++ and Swift, with strong OS internals knowledge and a background in systems programming.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of operating system internals and systems programming.
• Ability to work across kernel, user-space, framework and application layers.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science or related field.
• Knowledge of USB or other device/bus technologies (preferred).
• Familiarity with virtualization/hypervisor concepts (preferred).
• Experience with device emulation or hardware passthrough (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the Virtualisation and AccessoryAccess frameworks.
• Design and implement support for external devices in virtual machines.
• Write high-quality, well-tested, maintainable code in C++ and Swift.
• Design and implement test suites to ensure reliability and correctness across the stack.
• Debug complex issues spanning kernel, user-space, and guest operating system layers.
• Optimize performance of virtualised devices.
• Work cross-functionally with drivers, frameworks, and QA teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
• Pick up new subsystems and device technologies as team priorities evolve.
