Job summary

Cisco's Webex Real-time Media Engineering Group in London is seeking a Software Engineer with Rust/C++ experience to contribute to full lifecycle development of real-time media features in an agile environment.

You will work with DevOps and microservices, participate in on-call rotations, and grow through dedicated mentorship and formal training while applying AI to improve productivity. The team operates a hybrid model near Moorgate.

Qualifications

  • Analytical degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • 3+ years programming in Rust or C++ and willingness to learn new languages.
  • Experience across Rust/Java/C++/Python codebases as required.
  • Experience with Linux development and running software on Linux.
  • Understanding of virtualization and containers (Docker).

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver new features in an agile team.
  • Support DevOps and microservices; participate in on-call rotation.
  • Tackle diverse problems with a data-driven focus on quality and quick learning.
  • Own tasks from building new functionality to developing automated tests and investigating issues.

Software Engineer - RUST Webex Real-time Media Engineering Group

Our team is based in one of our central London offices, near Moorgate station. We operate a hybrid working model, meeting to collaborate in the office three times a week.

Your Impact

Full Lifecycle Development: Work in an agile team to design, develop, test, and deliver new features and improvements to our products. DevOps & Microservices: Be trained on and help manage the operational side of our highly available microservice architecture, including being part of an on-call rotation. Adaptable & Problem-Solver: Tackle varied and challenging problems daily, showing flexibility, a data-driven focus on quality, and an ability to learn new skills quickly. Ownership & Quality: Take responsibility for tasks, from building new functionality to developing automated tests and investigating issues, all with a level of high attention to detail. AI: Bringing your daily workflow to life with agentic AI for enhanced productivity; contribute to Cisco’s growth by using and applying AI in new scenarios and opportunities. Support & Growth: Receive dedicated mentorship and formal training from a supportive team of fellow engineers to help you get up to speed and grow your skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Analytical Degree: Bachelor's or higher degree in an analytical subject (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, Physics).
  • Coding Aptitude: 3+ years of programming experience in Rust or C++ and the willingness to learn new languages quickly.
  • With the expectation to contribute across Rust/Java/C++/Python codebases as required.
  • Experience with Linux development: Experience with using Linux and developing software running on Linux.
  • Experience with virtualisation and containers: An understanding of virtual machines and containerisation technologies, and experience with Docker.
Preferred Qualifications

Any of the following skills would be particularly advantageous, but we welcome applications without these:

  • Experience with data science / AI
  • Familiarity with NATS.io
  • Knowledge of networks and networking protocols (such as TCP/IP and HTTP)
  • Exposure to cryptography
  • Familiarity with SIP, audio and video coding, processing techniques, and related technologies
  • Familiarity with Git, DevOps, continuous integration, continuous delivery
