Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. in London (central London near Moorgate) is seeking a Software Engineer to work on Webex Real-time Media Engineering. You will contribute to full lifecycle development in an agile team, helping to design, develop, test, and deliver new features for Webex products.

We operate a hybrid model with in-office collaboration three days a week. The role emphasizes DevOps, microservices, and a data-driven approach to quality, with mentorship and formal training available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in an analytical subject (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, Physics).
  • 3+ years of programming experience in Rust or C++ with willingness to learn new languages; contribute across Rust/Java/C++/Python codebases as required.
  • Experience with Linux development: using Linux and developing software on Linux.
  • Experience with virtualization and containers: understanding of virtual machines and containerisation technologies, and experience with Docker.

Responsibilities

  • Full Lifecycle Development: Work in an agile team to design, develop, test, and deliver new features and improvements to our products.
  • DevOps & Microservices: Manage the operational side of our highly available microservice architecture, including being part of an on-call rotation.
  • Adaptable & Problem-Solver: Tackle varied and challenging problems daily, with a data-driven focus on quality and a quick ability to learn new skills.
  • Ownership & Quality: Take responsibility for tasks, from building new functionality to developing automated tests and investigating issues, with high attention to detail.
  • AI: Applying AI to daily workflows to enhance productivity and contribute to Cisco’s growth.
  • Support & Growth: Receive dedicated mentorship and formal training from a supportive team of fellow engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Analytical Degree: Bachelor's or higher degree in an analytical subject (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, Physics).
  • Coding Aptitude:3+ years ofprogramming experienceinRust orC++and the willingness to learn new languages quickly.Withtheexpectation tocontributeacrossRust/Java/C++/Pythoncodebases asrequired.
  • Experience with Linux development: Experience with using Linux and developing software running on Linux.
  • Experience with virtualisation and containers: An understanding of virtual machines and containerisation technologies, and experience with Docker.

Preferred Qualifications:

Any of the following skills would be particularlyadvantageous, but we welcome applications without these:

  • Experience with data science / AI
  • Familiarity withNATS.io
  • Knowledge of networks and networking protocols (such as TCP/IP and HTTP)
  • Exposure to cryptography
  • Familiarity withSIP,audioand video coding, processing techniques, andrelatedtechnologies
  • Familiarity with Git, DevOps, continuous integration, continuous delivery
