Senior Talent Partner Nationwide Building Society

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering Proofs of Concept and prototyping services across the Society. You will work in collaboration with a team of engineers to increase understanding of technology and inform decisions on its potential use and adoption. You will be comfortable working with a wide range of technologies and stakeholders and will welcome the opportunity to learn new tools and techniques. You will be an excellent team player, eager to share your experience and knowledge with your colleagues, and comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical people across the business.

This role is within the Chief Technology Office, which is responsible for setting the Society’s technology strategy, operating the central technology governance processes, and focusing on the future technology we need to deliver our Society Blueprint.

Our team is at the forefront of using new tools and ways of working within Nationwide, and you will have the opportunity to work in an environment that is constantly evolving and adapting.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office.

What you'll be doing

  1. Delivering Proofs of Concept and prototyping services across the Society, including configuring and testing new technology and applications to determine their effectiveness and potential for integration within Nationwide.
  2. Drive innovation experiments. Identify, define, and scope innovation experiments that align with our technology strategy. Support the innovation process from PoC initiation, scoping, prioritisation to approval.
  3. Collaborate with fellow engineers to increase understanding of technology and inform decisions on its potential use and adoption.
  4. Work with a wide range of technologies and stakeholders and welcome the opportunity to learn new tools and techniques.
  5. Share experience and knowledge with their colleagues and engage with both technical and non-technical people across the business.

About you

We are looking for a Proofs of Concept Software Engineer with experience in a range of technologies and cloud development.

You should have demonstrable experience in:

  • Proven experience of the software development lifecycle, software delivery, software design, architectural patterns and experience with industry-standard tools and methods for delivering software (version control, CI/CD pipeline, etc.).
  • The ability and enthusiasm to research and learn new languages, technology, and frameworks rapidly.
  • Experience using and architecting cloud-based services in either AWS or Azure (the broader knowledge of cloud service portfolios the better).
  • Data layer architectures (for example, NoSQL data layers such as Cassandra/MongoDB).
  • Experience of implementing solutions using containerisation technology such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to describe technical solutions to technical and non-technical people.
  • Teamwork skills, mentoring, and resourcefulness with a proven sense of ownership and drive.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind.
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand.
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development.
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes.

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.

The extras you'll get

There are all sorts of employee benefits available at Nationwide, including:

  • A personal pension – if you put in 7% of your salary, we’ll top up by a further 16%.
  • Up to 2 days of paid volunteering a year.
  • Life assurance worth 8x your salary.
  • A great selection of additional benefits through our salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Wellhub – Access to a range of free and paid options for health and wellness.
  • Access to an annual performance related bonus.
  • Access to training to help you develop and progress your career.
