Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve PHP and Laravel applications, APIs and supporting services.
• Build user-facing functionality and the backend systems that support it.
• Work with engineers, QA testers and wider stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable software.
• Develop integrations that allow applications and external systems to work together.
• Investigate technical issues and improve application security, performance and reliability.
• Contribute to testing, code reviews, deployment and ongoing improvements.
• Depending on your experience, take ownership of technical design for individual features and smaller solutions, contribute to wider design discussions and coach colleagues.

Software Engineer - PHP / Laravel - Mid-Level or Senior

A fantastic opportunity for a Software Engineer to join a growing tech-for-good company building software that makes a positive difference to people's everyday lives. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will work on varied technical challenges, from developing new functionality to connecting systems and improving performance. The company can consider applicants at mid-level through to senior, with responsibilities and technical ownership tailored to your experience.

Location

Near Ipswich, Suffolk - hybrid working with mandatory office attendance every Tuesday and Friday. These days are fixed, so applicants must be able to meet this working pattern.

Salary

£45,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience developing applications using PHP and Laravel
• Experience working with modern frontend frameworks or libraries, ideally React
• Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns and testing
• Experience using Git-based source control
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues
• Comfortable adapting to changing requirements within a fast-paced development environment
• For applicants seeking senior-level responsibility, experience designing and delivering features or smaller software solutions, solving complex technical problems and supporting other developers
• Experience with message queues and event-driven architecture is beneficial
• Experience with caching, containerisation or deployment tooling is beneficial
