Big Red Recruitment is hiring a Mid-level Software Engineer for an in-house team at a UK retailer, focusing on modernising legacy tech with TypeScript, Node.js and AWS.

You'll build new services, migrate .NET components to TypeScript, work with SQL and DynamoDB, and participate in testing, reviews, and architecture discussions. The role sits in Leamington Spa with one day on-site per week and a benefits package including pension and healthcare.

Qualifications

• Hands-on AWS experience, preferably serverless event-driven architecture.

Want to build modern backend services while helping a well-established UK retailer move away from its legacy technology?

We're looking for a Mid-level Software Engineer to join an in-house engineering team undergoing a significant technology modernisation. Most of your time will be spent building new services using TypeScript, Node.js and AWS, alongside helping migrate functionality from a a couple of existing .NET applications.

We are looking for a mix of both Node.js Typescript and AWS experience ideally working in serverless event driven architecture (bonus if you've worked with AWS tooling like EKS/ECS, EC2, Eventbridge, Lambda etc). The vast majority of your work will be new feature delivery and enhancements to existing functionality in Node.js Typescript.

What you'll be doing

• Building APIs, backend services and integrations using TypeScript and Node.js
• Working with AWS, microservices and event-driven architecture
• Helping migrate legacy .NET applications onto modern Typescript services
• Working with SQL, DynamoDB, relational databases and system integrations
• Supporting live systems and contributing to testing, code reviews and technical discussions

The role is based in Leamington Spa 1 day a week with a salary ranging from £35k-£50k depending on experience. Benefits include 25 days holiday + bank holidays, 6% pension, 50% off products, healthcare plan, free parking, and more.
