Software Engineer (Mid-Level)

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Location: Nottingham (Hybrid - 1 day per week in office)

Industry: Digital Platforms / Data & SaaS Products

The Opportunity

I'm recruiting for a well-established Nottingham-based technology company that's continuing to grow its engineering function as demand for its digital platforms increases. This role is ideal for a mid-level Software Engineer who's comfortable building backend services, but still wants the support and mentorship of a strong senior engineering team.

You'll be joining an engineering team of around 15 developers, working in a collaborative, supportive environment where learning, code quality, and steady progression are genuinely encouraged.

What You'll Be Working On
  • Building and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs
  • Developing new features and improving existing systems
  • Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Collaborating closely with frontend engineers, Product, and Design
  • Taking part in code reviews and technical discussions
  • Improving system performance, reliability, and security

Projects include API-first platforms, data-driven services, and internal tooling that supports customer-facing applications.

Tech Stack (Open-Source)
  • Backend: Node.js (TypeScript)
  • Frameworks: Express or NestJS
  • APIs: REST, GraphQL
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Infrastructure: Linux, Docker, CI / CD pipelines
  • Cloud: AWS
  • Messaging: Kafka or RabbitMQ

Testing: Jest, Supertest

You don't need experience with everything - strong Node.js fundamentals and a willingness to learn are key.
