Job summary

Ocho in Belfast is seeking a hands-on Backend Engineer to join a rapidly growing cloud security platform. You will design, build and scale core services, collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, secure software.

Qualifications

• 3+ years backend development experience in high-performing environments.
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Exposure to data-intensive systems (databases, messaging, event-driven).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
• Experience working within microservices architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own the full development lifecycle – design, development, deployment and monitoring.
• Make technical and architectural decisions impacting high-scale cloud security platforms.
• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems.
• Conduct design and code reviews to maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Frontend, DevOps and Security teams.

The Role

As a Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

• Owning the full development lifecycle – from design and development through to deployment and monitoring
• Making technical and architectural decisions that impact high-scale cloud security platforms
• Improving the performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems
• Conducting design and code reviews to maintain high engineering standards
• Collaborating closely with Frontend, DevOps, and Security teams

About You

You're a great fit if you have:

• 3+ years of backend development experience in any high-performing language
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Exposure to data-intensive systems (databases, messaging, event-driven systems, etc.)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices
• Experience working within microservices architectures

Bonus Skills (Desirable, not essential)

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, or TimescaleDB
• Understanding of cloud security principles and best practices
