Qualifications

  • Degree in software engineering or related field with strong software development experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows programming, C# (WPF), and OO design.
  • Experience with source control and bug-tracking tools; knowledge of graphics, data visualization, 3D.
  • Nice-to-have: C++, Python, Agile, instrumentation knowledge.

Responsibilities

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (C# / WPF)

PERMANENT ROLE, BASED LIVINGSTON / HYBRID - EXCELLENT SALARY PLUS BENEFITS

Based in Livingston, Grw Talent's client comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back many years. Now part of a global multinational business, their fast growing multidisciplinary scientific and engineering group is looking to recruit a Software Development Engineer.

Reporting to the Software Team Leader, the Software Development Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the design, development, testing, documentation, and maintenance of system software for various spectroscopy products.

Responsibilities:
  • Gather requirements, design, code, test and maintain system software for Company products.
  • Liaise with and support, through proper use of the defect tracking system, Software Testing.
  • Produce manuals and support documentation for system software.
  • Maintain full records and ensure safe keeping of all system software.
  • Ensure that all activities comply with Company quality procedures.
  • Propose, implement and demonstrate solutions to problems which may not, given the research and development environment, have clearly defined requirements.
  • Provide support to Production and Sales teams, as required.
  • Keep abreast of current technology and advise the Company on issues that may affect performance and success.
  • Undertake off-site visits, and/or remote in, as required to install, service or maintain software systems and computer related hardware.

You’ll need to have a degree in software engineering or a related engineering/science discipline with relevant software development experience. To be considered for this role you will need to have Microsoft windows programming experience - specifically in C# (WPF). Along with this a thorough understanding of object-oriented design methods and patterns and demonstratable UI design skills. Experience of using Source Code Management and Bug tracking tools in a team environment would also be useful as would Graphics - Data visualisation, charting, 3D. Nice to have experience for this role includes knowledge of other programming languages such as C++ or Python, familiarity to Agile software development principles and patterns. Knowledge of Instrumentation - scientific/medical, imaging, hardware interfacing, data acquisition, USB devices, sensors and optical detectors, motor control, etc would also be great.

Although primarily needed to work on site 3 days a week you will likely be able to work from home 2 days a week once established in role. You will work a 37.5 hour flexible working pattern, that allows an early finish on a Friday.
