Job description

Software Developer
Liverpool
£48,000 - £50,000 + Benefits

Are you a Software Developer who enjoys working with people as much as working with code? Can you listen to a colleague’s problem, understand the process behind it and turn that insight into a practical improvement?

Our client is a growing specialist services business looking for an experienced developer to improve the Microsoft systems that support its teams and customers. This newly created role offers the chance to strengthen an established Dynamics 365 environment and help develop a customer portal, with the longer-term goal of making it an ecommerce site.

The existing system works and adds value, so your first priority will be to understand how people use it, what it does well and where it causes frustration. You'll spend time with teams across the business before shaping a practical 6-12-month improvement plan. From there, you'll deliver changes in a structured way, working closely with the IT Manager and external technology partners.

This is a hands-on development role with a strong consultative element. You might discuss technical options with senior leaders, then help a customer service colleague resolve an issue. You'll follow problems through, keep people informed and look for lasting fixes when the same issue keeps coming up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn how teams across finance, customer service, field services and other departments use the current systems.
  • Review the Dynamics 365 Business Central and Customer Engagement setup, including bespoke developments, integrations and C# customisation.
  • Investigate issues raised by colleagues, identify root causes and prioritise useful improvements.
  • Develop, test and document changes to business systems and integrations, following security best practice.
  • Help develop the Microsoft Power Pages customer portal and its links to internal systems, with a view to supporting ecommerce in the future.
  • Work with the IT Manager and external providers, including liaising with the IT support provider's Security Operations Centre (SOC) team where needed.
  • Explain technical options, costs and risks clearly to colleagues at all levels.
  • Identify recurring support issues and create solutions, guidance or training to address them.
Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in a similar hands-on software development or business systems role is essential.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central and/or Customer Engagement, together with Power Pages and Dataverse.
  • Confidence working with databases, APIs, integrations and business-critical systems.
  • The ability to understand existing code and customisations, investigate issues methodically and make maintainable improvements.
  • An understanding of security best practice and how to apply it when developing and integrating business systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and a consultative approach with people at every level.
  • A positive, approachable and can-do attitude, with the initiative to take ownership and keep colleagues updated.

Experience with implementing ecommerce functionality would be advantageous, as would experience with C#/.NET, AL, JavaScript or TypeScript, SQL, REST APIs, Azure and the wider Microsoft Power Platform. You don't need to have used every technology listed, but you should be keen to learn the existing systems in depth and grow with the business.

If you enjoy building relationships, solving practical problems and making technology work better for the people who rely on it, this is an opportunity to make a visible difference.
