Job summary

Cardiff Metropolitan University is recruiting permanent Software Developers to support the development of services and systems for students and staff, on campus and across the world.

As we transition to the Cloud, our Software Developers will assist in implementing modern coding practices in a Azure-based .NET Core environment, ensuring maintainable, resilient and secure applications for a global community.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in developing software applications with MS SQL, .NET Core and Azure.
  • Experience in Agile development and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of security practices (OWASP) and secure coding techniques.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement scalable, high-quality in-house applications through the full development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with users to ensure effective integration of applications and data elimination where possible.
  • Provide user documentation and training materials for information systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of IT developments and software tools, and apply them in higher education.
  • Contribute with a positive, proactive attitude to support Cardiff Met's digital estate.

Job description

Software Developer

The University is recruiting for permanent Software Developers to support the development of services and systems supporting both students and staff, both on campus and across the world.


As we transition to the Cloud, our Software Developers will be supporting this move and will help in implementing modern coding practices to our existing applications; ensuring they are maintainable, resilient and secure. The work will be Cloud based utilising Azure and .Net Core.

You’ll lead the way by:


  • Implement scalable, high quality, secure and high-performance in-house applications through systems analysis, specifications, designing, programming, testing, deployment, user training and documentation.

  • Collaborate with relevant users to ensure effective integration of applications to eliminate duplication of data entry, where possible, using adopted integration standards and middleware.

  • Provide user documentation, training and training material in the use of information systems.

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of IT developments generally and software analysis, design and programming tools. Evaluate their application in higher education by undertaking training, attending workshops and online seminars.

  • Bringing a positive, \"can do\" attitude to the role; assisting the university in supporting and developing its digital estate.


What you'll bring

With a good knowledge and practical experience of successful software application development using MS SQL and Microsoft.NET Core (ASP.NET, C#.NET and Restful API) and Azure, you will work as part of an Agile development team, working with a variety of stakeholders from across the University to develop systems and services that support the University staff and students.


You will also have excellent interpersonal and well-developed communication skills.



  • Have good knowledge and competency in business analysis and design methodology.

  • Have practical knowledge and hands on experience of developing within the Azure platform, e.g. Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Grids.

  • Have thorough knowledge of RDBMS e.g. SQL Server, Oracle.

  • Have practical knowledge of web development including, CSS, HTML, HTTPS.

  • Have practical knowledge of secure programming techniques e.g. OWASP, both generally and for the adopted programming languages.

  • Be able to design technical solutions to meet strategic and business requirements.

  • Be motivated, and able to establish timelines and prioritise competing work.

  • Have a degree, HND or equivalent qualification; or relevant experience.
