Job summary

Actemium Automation Huddersfield, part of VINCI Energies, is seeking a Software Controls Engineer to design, develop and commission PLC, HMI/SCADA solutions for industrial projects across manufacturing and process sectors. This is a hands-on role with opportunities to progress technically and into project leadership.

You’ll develop, configure and commission PLC and HMI/SCADA software, collaborate with project engineers and site teams, and ensure safety and performance requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering qualification or proven practical experience in controls engineering.
• Strong PLC and HMIs/SCADA programming experience; familiarity with Mitsubishi and Schneider Electric platforms preferred.
• Good understanding of electrical control circuits, I/O and industrial communication protocols.
• Experience with commissioning and fault-finding on site.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test PLC control logic (Mitsubishi/Schneider) and function blocks.
• Develop HMI/SCADA applications and visualisation (WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition).
• Perform FAT/SAT activities, commissioning and on-site support for automated systems.
• Integrate drives, motion control and fieldbus/industrial Ethernet networks.
• Produce clear technical documentation and configuration backups.
• Collaborate with electrical/mechanical teams on panel wiring and installation checks.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and client specs.
• Provide training and handover documentation to clients and colleagues.
